The first step in making lip balm is melting shea butter, beeswax and almond oil together.

To make lip balm on a stovetop you need to melt the ingredients in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir with a spoon to blend and don’t let it boil.

To melt it in the microwave, it is best to use a microwave safe glass measuring cup with a spout. The spout will make it easier to pour out the liquid. Be careful, the melted oils will be hot and so will the glass measuring cup. Use an oven mitt when handling the glass measuring cup.

Add drops of flavor with the included pipettes and stir. Mango Peach or Creme de Menthe.

Next add mica powder in slowly.

What is mica powder? Mica powder is a sparkling metallic pigment powder used to tint cosmetics. It will give your lip balm a pearlescent rose gold color.  Avoid breathing in mica powder dust, wearing a mask will help prevent breathing in the glittery particles. The mica powder included in our kit contains Mica, Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxide. Mica is used  to tint many different kinds of makeup like blush, lipstick and eyeshadow as well.

Our lip balm kit also comes with a small funnel to make it easier to pour the lip balm mixture into the tubes. Using a microwave safe glass measuring cup with a spout also makes it easier to pour and to reheat.

Let the lip balm cool, and cover with a cap.

Draw your own design on the labels and decorate your lip balm.

Store your lip balm at a cool temperature and enjoy!
