Golden Milk Recipe Turmeric Ginger Cinammon

Golden Milk Recipe

Like many of you, we have been consumed with thoughts about Covid-19. In the span of a couple of months, daily life has changed in many ways. With all of us spending countless hours at home, and doing our best to reduce the number of trips to the store, we are all having to get a bit more creative about the items we use in our daily lives. This process can at times be challenging, but we are here to help.

Examining the products we use and finding sustainable ways to make them is what Grow and Make is all about. Since health is at the forefront of our minds, we wanted to share this delicious recipe with you from our archives. This is a quick and easy way to spice up your weekly immune boosting menu and give your taste buds some fun. It doesn’t have to be all salads, broccoli and chicken soup!

In stressful times, nothing feels better than comforting foods and drinks. If you are growing bored of your late night cup of tea, we think this easy golden milk recipe is a great alternative.

Golden milk is a delicious, anti-inflammatory drink that has been around for millennia. Its ingredients have many medicinal properties, and in addition to being a health tonic, it is also quite a tasty treat that can be enjoyed by the whole family!

Traditional golden milk recipes use turmeric, which is how this drink gets its great color. Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant that can help boost your immune system and protect your body against free radicals. It is also believed to fight against viral infections (which makes it pretty appealing to us right now). This drink includes black pepper, which makes the active compound in turmeric (Curcumin) 2,000 times more bio-available to your body, so be sure not to leave it out!

Golden Milk Recipe:

  • 2 cups of coconut milk (can substitute other types of milk)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp dried turmeric powder (can substitute fresh)
  • 1 tsp dried ginger powder (can substitute fresh)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon chips (can substitute powdered)
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper (roughly a pinch)
  • 2 tsp sugar (or whatever your preferred sweetener is)

Step 1: Place coconut milk and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Once it begins to warm, add all dried ingredients and whisk into the milk.

Step 2: Let milk simmer with the ingredients for 8 minutes. Continue to stir often enough to evenly distribute the heat and avoid scalding the milk on the bottom of the pan.

Step 3: Put the lid on the pan and turn off heat. Let steep for 10 minutes to let all the ingredients and flavors fully infuse.

Step 4: Strain and serve hot. Refrigerate leftovers to be warmed later.

Consider this recipe as a guideline. It can be easily modified to suit your preferences in several ways. If you have fresh ginger and turmeric available, you can thinly slice the roots to replace the dry ingredients. Keep in mind that when using fresh herbs, you must increase the quantities, since fresh herbs are not as concentrated as dried herbs. We suggest tripling the amount of fresh. This will give a livelier flavor and the spiciness of the ginger will be more distinct. The flavors of cardamom and nutmeg can also be nice additions to this recipe.

Enjoy!
