Care & Treatment: Coyuchi recommends machine washing in cold water, gentle cycle, using biodegradable soap. Do not bleach. Tumble dry, low heat, or line dry. Usually ships in 7 to 10 business days.

What makes it different?
Coyuchi bed and bath products are made from 100% certified organic fair trade cotton. Certified organic cotton is produced without the use of any agricultural chemicals Coyuchi’s cotton is grown “by hand” on family farms in India.

Why does this matter?
Cotton is the most heavily sprayed field crop on the planet. 25% of insecticides used globally each year are applied to cotton even though it is grown on only 3% of the world’s arable land.
In California, the only state for which we have these figures, it takes 1.25 pounds of agricultural chemicals to produce the
conventionally grown cotton in a single set of queen-sized sheets.

How is organic cotton made?
Coyuchi’s thread count varies from 220 to 350. In general, there is very little organic cotton sheeting available in higher thread counts. This is because the highest yielding, most bug and drought resistant varieties are best suited to organic cultivation and also happen to have shorter fiber. The longer-stapled types whose fiber can be spun into fine yarn are not
as hardy and productive. However, by adding the step of combing before spinning, which separates out the short fibers, yarn is made softer and stronger.

Finishing: The finishing process also adds luster, softness and quality to the fabric. The first step involves washing the fabric with an amylase enzyme to add softness and eliminate pilling and a cationic softener to give it a supple, luxurious hand. The softener is type-allergenic and approved by both OTA in the US and SKAL, our certifier in India. Next comes sanforizing, a mechanical process that helps reduces shrinkage. Finally, fabric is run through a calendaring process, a sort of gigantic iron, which flattens and polishes it using high heat and tremendous pressure.

Dyeing: The dyes we use are low-impact fiber reactive dyes. The are called “low-impact,” meaning little environmental effect because they use less water, have between an 80-90% bonding co-efficiency or dye material to fiber (which means less waste to treat), and require less heat to accomplish the dye process. Fiber reactive dyes give excellent results on
cotton.

What are some specific features of Coyuchi bedding?
• Flat sheets are made 106” long
• Fitted sheets have 15” pockets and elastic all around the bottom
• Duvets have a hidden placket with a button closure
• Stitching is 10 -15 per inch
• Natural, or ivory, is the color of the cotton with no treatment other than washing out the wheat starch (sizing)
after weaving.
• White is achieved by bleaching with hydrogen peroxide, a benign bleaching agent that breaks down into hydrogen and water.

Coyuchi bath products
Coyuchi offers 550 gsm border-less bath sheets, bath towels, hand towels and washcloths produced in a twill, diagonal weave. These are very absorbent, and are available in natural, white, blue and taupe.

Coyuchi offers several styles of robes: a lightweight waffle weave (OSFA women’s), a heavy terry velour (Medium or Large unisex), a hooded terry velour (Small or Large women’s), and a sateen (OSFA women’s).

What are the social benefits?
Coyuchi’s cotton is produced by family farmers who grow all crops organically and bio-dynamically on farms ranging in size from 2 to10 acres. All are Fair-Trade Certified and members of the Chetna Organic Farming Association. Farmers are paid about 50% more than they would earn for conventional cotton.
