If you are an experienced gardener or a neophyte who hears the soil beckon you will come to love this book. Second Nature, while not as well-known as his other books, has plenty to offer anyone interested in growing plants.
As is his style, Pollan methodically unravels humans' history with agriculture and cultivation, beginning with prehistoric times. The story follows a gentle, inquisitive path that educates without preaching. You'll walk away from this book enriched and enlightened, but the reading is nothing heavy or academic-feeling.
This book would make a great gift for any gardener in your life!
