Overview: There's something very satisfying about using fresh air and sunshine to dry your clothes. Even if you don't know the exact statistics (for example, an electric clothes dryer averages 5.8% of residential energy use), it just feels good to know you're saving energy and saving costs.

If you are drying clothes for a large family, or can hang out clothes year-round, a folding parallel-line dryer is a great choice. The units are pre-strung and require no assembly, and fit in a plastic ground sleeve. Installing the sleeve requires simple tools to dig a small hole, and a bag of cement to hold the sleeve in place. Once installed, place the dryer pole in the sleeve and you're ready to go. And when your garden club is coming for tea, or that backyard game of softball is coming up, simply lift the folded unit out of the way.
