By
Will Johnston
Did you know that over 100 million trees are cut down every year for junk mail? Pretty scary, right? To make things worse, 44% of all junk mail ends up in the garbage unopened. Recycling your junk mail is a good first step, but better yet, remove yourself from junk mail lists and keep the stuff out of your house to begin with. It's easy to make a big difference.
1. Make sure to recycle all the junk mail that you receive.
2. Get off catalog mailing lists.
3. Direct Marketing Association (non-profit) provides an online service which takes you off the mailing lists
4. Re-use you junk mail by shredding it and using as packing materials.
5. Use Opt-out Prescreen.com or call 888-567-8688 to stop getting junk mail from Credit Cards.
6. Yellowpages goes green can help with not receving the phone book. Call the local phone book suppliers and tell them ENOUGH and express your anger at their business practices.
7. Be careful what you sign up for and who you provide your address to.
8. Send junk mail back to sender if there is a pre-paid envelope.
9. Share this article with others and leave your ideas as comments so I can include more approaches to solving this problem.
