Have you ever stopped and looked at what was in your toothpaste? I did one day, and saw ingredients that I knew were detrimental to my teeth. As I continued my ever-growing quest to know my body, I had often overlooked my purls. I decided that I would take control of the chemicals that are going on my teeth and make my own toothpaste. Here is a simple toothpaste recipe that you can make easily.
You Need:
1/4 cup baking soda
1/3 tsp salt
4 tsp vegetable glycerin
15 drops of peppermint/wintergreen extract
Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, and voila! You have just made your own peppermint toothpaste.
Baking soda neutralizes the acid in your mouth and can aid in preventing plaque buildup. It also helps to prevent gingivitis and gum disease. Salt is a natural tooth whitener and peppermint is soothing and gentle on the teeth. This recipe will last you for about 2 weeks.
Keep in mind that making more of what you consume lessens the resources required for packaging, recycling and manufacturing as well as the carbon footprint required for distribution and buying from a store.
